The National and American leagues are two separate organizations with no major difference. Although different teams play in each league but are selected only from the list of MLB teams. One significant difference that I have found after research on Major League Baseball is that the American League has an additional player known as a “Designated Hitter” that a team can use when needed. A designated player can not play in the field, the only role that he can play is to bat for a pitcher.
After the playoff matches of each team from both the leagues, the qualified teams from the National and American leagues then play the World series which is the final competition between each league’s qualified team. The winning team of the respected league wins the world series after defeating the opponent team.
According to my findings total of 117 world series have been played until now. National League has won the World Series 51 times while the American league has been able to win the world series 66 times. Most series are won by the American league’s team named New York Yankees, a total of 27 times.
